Dear Colleagues and friends,
it is with great pleasure that we announce the IV International Symposium on Childhood Deafness, to be held October 24-25, 2008, in Naples, Italy. The conference will be hosted by the E.N.T. Department of Santobono-Pausilipon Pediatric Hospital. The topics of the meeting will focus on various aspects of cochlear implants, middle ear implants, cost/benefit and cost effectiveness of C.I. in children, brainstam implant, treatment of hearing loss using traditional hearing aids. One session will be dedicated to controversies in middle ear surgery.
In the past, cochlear implants were used only in cases of severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. In the last two decades the technology has developed rapidly and these advances have helped not only these patients but also those with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss thus obtaining a better level of function than they could have in the past using conventional hearing aids.
Our goal is to organize an international meeting that will serve as an occasion for all the groups from Italy, Europe and the Mediterranean area, to reflect on and share their experiences with each other.
We sincerely hope you will enjoy this event and we are looking forward to personally welcoming you to Naples.
